Kidney Cares Podcast
The Mississippi Kidney Cares Podcast—funded by Alliant Health Solutions and hosted by Executive Director Thomas TJ Mayfield—features patients, doctors, and health care and renal workers. Discussions are had about the difficulties of the disease and how those suffering can find support and help along their journey.
American Kidney Fund
The American Kidney Fund (AKF) fights on all fronts for 37 million Americans living with kidney disease. Thanks to our compassionate community, we can be there for patients wherever they are in their illness. No other organization takes a more comprehensive approach or makes a greater direct impact on patients’ lives.
National Kidney Foundation
The National Kidney Foundation is revolutionizing the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis, and transplantation.
Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA)
The mission of the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA), a not-for-profit organization, is to save and improve lives through the gift of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
Federal law requires hospitals to enact policies that make every family suffering the loss of a loved one aware of the opportunity for organ, eye, and tissue donation. There are 58 organ procurement agencies across the country working in their designated service areas to accomplish this. MORA is the federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO) for most of Mississippi, but its mission is about so much more than simply compliance.
MORA staff members are on call every minute of the day, and they carry out most of the legwork required to pair matching recipients to organs as they become available. In the wake of loss, a MORA agent will be at the family’s side, making phone calls to transplant centers and answering any questions the donor’s family may have with compassion and professionalism.
MORA works tirelessly to spread awareness about donation throughout the state at medical conventions, civic meetings, health fairs, schools, and churches – you name it. MORA gladly provides brochures and other materials on donation free of charge to anyone who requests them.
